Chaos erupted at Gatitu village in Nyeri on Saturday when rival groups clashed in an event organised by Agriculture minister Mwangi Kiunjuri.
Supporters of Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu and local MCA Simon Muturi could not spare one another as Kiunjuri stared helplessly.
While Ngunjiri is a key proponent of Kieleweke team, Mr Muturi is said to be supporting Tanga Tanga team in Nyeri region. It took several minutes to calm the rowdy youths.
Security teams claim that both sides held several meetings on Friday in planning to heckle one another during the event.
In his speech, Kiunjuri warned youths against being misused by politicians. He also asked youths to respect all politicians who attend functions.
"Every leader attending this meeting should be respected," he said
On his part, Ngunjiri asked leaders to work together when it comes to development regardless of their political persuasions.
“We may not agree politically but on development matters we must be on the same page.
"There could be political noise but that should never interfere with development,” he said.
