ODM's Reuben Katana was on Monday sworn in as the new Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Ganda Ward in Malindi, Kilifi county.
Katana won the seat on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, after beating his closest rival Abdul Omar and Jubilee's Paul Kiponda who was a distant third.
In a tweet, the ODM party which held intense campaigns for his sake congratulated him for his new position, confirming that he has fully embarked on serving Ganda people.
"Hon. Reuben Katana Mwamure is one officially the MCA Ganda Ward of Malindi Constituency in Kilifi County. He took his oath of office today and assumed his role of representing his people in the Assembly. From Chungwa House we say HONGERA (congratulations)," the party said.
Katana won the seat against the wishes of Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, who has since rebelled against ODM and who threw her weight fully behind Mr Omar who vied independently.
So intense was the hostility between the camps that Katana's uncle Ngunbao Jola, was shot dead at Katana's home after Jumwa and her supporters stormed an ongoing ODM meeting.
Jumwa and her aide Geoffrey Okuto were arrested in relation to the shooting, but have since been released from police custody.
