President Uhuru Kenyatta has called for partnership with Kenyans on holding elected leaders to account on matters usage of funds allocated to them.
Speaking in Balambala in Garissa on Friday, the head of state said that the move is aimed at ensuring that the leaders use public monies in the required way.
He said that this will have developmental benefits, as it will prevent misuse of funds by forcing for the use of the funds in an intended manner, thus benefiting the public.
“We want money allocated for development to go the right projects but not the pockets of a few people. You the people are our employers and you have the right to hold us as leaders to account to make sure your money is used properly," said the President as quoted by the People Daily.
He made the remarks when he commissioned an Sh13 billion 50 Megawatt solar power plant, developed by the Rural Energy Authority (REA).
“I see that the gap that existed is being reduced. We are developing our country uniformly from Moyale to Namanga from Mombasa to Lake Victoria,” Uhuru noted.
