The government is losing billions through exaggerated road quotations, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has said.
Speaking after inspecting on-going roads construction works in Syokimau, Katani and Githunguri in Mavoko Sub County, Mutua asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to consider the introduction of policy review for the construction of roads in the country.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement leader said that the government has been suffering unnecessary loses because of the fraudulent activities in road construction.
Mutua said that it has emerged that the construction of roads in Kenya is more expensive compared to the developed nations, which he insisted that it doesn’t add up.
He noted that the review will be a breakthrough in the quest to utilise the resources in the country.
“I am asking President Uhuru Kenyatta to consider implementing a review of policy on costing of all categories of roads and have price ceilings set to ensure no funds are lost through corrupt processes,” he said, as quoted by Standard.
He also queried why the government should spend more on a road when it is cheaper elsewhere.
He also divulged that it is clear that some people in government want to use the contracts to loot public resources. Mutua further asked Uhuru not to retreat in the war against graft.
