Preliminary reports indicate that the woman could have been raped before she was strangled by the killers.

Confirming the incident, Embu West Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer Michael Kimilu said that the police recovered two mobile phones believed to belong to the woman from the scene of crime.

He also said that police have already launched manhunt for the suspected killers.

Kimilu appealed to the residents to remain calm as the probe into the matter kicks off. He also said that the woman might have engaged in a physical fight with the killers before they murdered her in cold blood.

"It seems as if the woman fought with the killers before she was strangled and thrown into the river," said Mr Kimilu, as quoted by Daily Nation.

The body of the victim, which was decomposing, was found by one of the farmers from the region. The farmer reported the matter to the police who responded promptly.

The police discovered clothes and bag at the scene of the incident. The officers transferred the body of the deceased to Embu Referral Hospital mortuary pending probe into the matter.
