The poll body on Monday allowed the Kibra parliamentary hopeful to contest, after initially blocking him from the race over allegations that he was not a registered voter.

Weighing-in on the development, the youthful lawmaker wondered how the soccer star was allowed to contest after registering as a voter 10 days after closure of registration.

He termed it questionable that voters are being given a timeframe within which to register, yet Mariga is  being allowed to register days later, in another constituency to worsen it.

"You cannot officially stop registration of new voters for Kibra between 16th and 8 November 2019 so that no one interferes with the Kibra voters for that by-election; but then allow someone to register on 26th August 2019 in another constituency, to run in Kibra. Why stop registration then?" he wrote on Facebook.

He said that such actions are the reason why the commission has not been having it easy with political players, saying that its actions justify the attacks it has been dealing with.

"IEBC makes it easy for those who say the election body dishonest and malleable when they do stuff like this," he added.

The remarks came only shortly after Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo fired the first shot, calling for a cleanup at the commission.
