Former ODM Deputy Communications Director Seth Odongo alias Dikembe Disembe on Monday claimed that Mr Magaya had been sidelined by some ODM leaders.

According to him, Mr Magaya was struggling to pay his hospital bills despite an order by Raila Odinga to have the party paying them, a claim that has since been disputed.

"Some people were saying Mr Kawino (Finance Director) is the problem, or Charles Memba (Accountant); but I reject these insinuations. If the party leader made a pronouncement on Magaya, it is the ED to effect it. If not, that matter goes to the SG," he claimed.

But ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna seems to have been aggrieved by Odongo's claims, insisting that had he been working at Orange House, he would have sacked him.

"He doesn't. If he was I would sack him today," Sifuna said. He added: "I have no such employee on the party payroll."

In a tweet however, Mr Magaya denied claims that he had been abandoned, adding that both ODM and NASA have been assisting him while in hospital.

"I have had a recurrent heart condition for the past four months and been admitted in hospital on three occasions latest being last week. On all occasions both the coalition leadership and the @TheODMparty have stood with me," he wrote.

The ODM party had also denied the allegations by Mr Odongo, adding that Mr Magaya, a key figure in the party, has often been getting support.

"The ODM Party is aware that Nasa CEO Norman Magaya has been unwell. We continue to support him in every possible way and wish him quick recovery. Every request for support has been dealt with as and when received by the party."

Mr Odongo resigned from Orange House before joining Minority Chief Whip Junet Mohamed as one of his aides. Junet Mohamed is also ODM Director of Elections.
