Speaking on Thursday when he condoled with Kisii politician Simon Ogari following the demise of his mother Agnes Keene Ogari, Maangi said he fully supports the BBI.

"I want to confirm my support for the BBI because it is meant to ensure there is no bloodshed after every election. I want to urge those criticising ODM Party leader Raila Odinga over the BBI to stop and know that the recommendations in the BBI are good for the well-being of the country," said Maangi.

This comes days after Maangi noted that he will oppose the BBI report if it advocates for the Parliamentary system of governance.

"If BBI is about allowing Parliament to pick leader, then we shall have no option but reject it from the onset. MPs cannot choose leaders for us," said Maangi.

Maangi, who is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto said he should not be crucified for being part of the top leaders in the county who show up to welcome the DP whenever he tours the county.

He appealed to local politicians to shun politics based on political parties and focus on healthy politics.

"I am a leader who should welcome Ruto anytime he visits the county. My presence at DP Ruto's functions should not make some leaders panic," he added.

Maangi further called for the unity of the Gusii community, noting that leaders in the region should speak in one voice.
