Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot has said the Punguza Mizigo initiative will not be discouraged by its first rejection by county assemblies.
Speaking on Wednesday, he said the bill was rejected not because its proposals were bad, but due to political pressure from jealous politicians.
Out of the 47 counties, only Uasin Gishu and Turkana endorsed it, in what Aukot termed as political arm twisting from the elites.
According to Aukot, some county assemblies did not bother to debate the Bill out of fear of losing their jobs and party positions.
“Political jealousy is real in this country. Some people think that they own the public space. If it is not them that make a proposition, then anything won’t fly," he said as quoted by Standard.
He accused the government of bullying Members of County Assemblies to reject the Bill, suggesting that the state used corruption to have his push rejected.
"We cannot trust this regime that uses corruption to fight good ideas meant to end corruption which is an operating system in our political culture,” he added.
The Bill sought to have corruption cases concluded within 30 days, abolish a number of elective seats, and reduce the number of constituencies to slash the wage bill.
