Opposition leader Raila Odinga has told Kenyans to be ready for a referendum that will stem from the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report next year.
Raila who was speaking at the burial of Mr Frederick Omondi, claimed Kenyans have had time to go through the BBI report and therefore know the sections that they want to be amended.
"We have given Kenyans ample time to read and reread the document and identity issues contained in the report they want to be amended," Raila stated.
Raila nonetheless insisted that the current BBI report is not final. According to him, there shall be public participation in the second phase of the BBI report which is focused on finding solutions to problems affecting Kenyans.
This, according to Raila, will make sure that Kenyans have a say over decisions to be made about things that affect their own well being.
"Constitution-making is a people-led process across the world and so the interest of the common man will not be over-looked even as BBI team prepare for the second round of deliberations on the best way forward to implement the nine issues identified as problems ailing Kenya and suggested remedies thereto," Raila said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta after meeting with Raila Odinga announced that the term for the BBI taskforce had been extended.
The BBI report stemmed from the handshake between President Uhuru and Raila.
