Devolution minister Eugene Wamalwa has asked Abagusii community to protect Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i, arguing that the president has confidence in him.
Dr Matiang'i was elevated to chair the powerful National Development and Communication Cabinet Committee, which supervises government projects across the country.
Speaking at Riokindo High School on Friday, Wamalwa who had accompanied Matiang'i during his expansive Kisii and Nyamira trip, said 'enemies were plotting for the minister'.
While he did not expound the meaning of 'giving him to enemy', Wamalwa's remarks can be interpreted to mean supporting a different candidate.
“The Head of State appointed the Interior CS to lead us because he has faith in him. Do not give Dr Matiang’i to enemies,” Mr Wamalwa said.
According to him, not everybody was happy with Matiang'i's new roles, adding that being a shining star, his approach to issues has given some politicians headache.
He added that a star has been seen in Dr Matiang’i “but not everybody is happy”.“His shining star can be seen in the whole country,” the Devolution CS said.
Also present were Keriako Tobiko of environment, George Magoha of education and ICT boss Joe Mucheru. They joined several leaders from the region during launching of various projects.
Governor John Nyagarama said the region will have no option other than to support Dr Matiang'i, adding that the Abagusii community have come of age to give a candidate.
"As a community, we have numbers. Let's support our son in his endevours. We are ready for the batter and we expect more people to join us," said Nyagarama.
