Celebrated Kenyan gospel artist Mercy Masika has landed a lucrative ambassadorial role at United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees(UNHCR) as their goodwill ambassador.
In a post on her Instagram account on Wednesday, she came out to celebrate her new position.
"I believe this role is given to us together to represent our own especially those that we are called to, the vulnerable, persecuted and everyone forced to flee, did you know Jesus was a refugee? Thank you @unhcrkenya@unhcr for this honor," she said.
The UNHCR also posted on their Instagram wall this great news.
"A very big warm welcome to our newly appointed @refugeesGoodwill Ambassador for Kenya 🇰🇪, @mercymasikamuguro!" posted unhcrkenya.
Masika has been working hard on her LuQuLuQu campaign which aimed at changing people's views on refugees. Masika has in the past participated in various events held by the UNHCR.
Her appointment comes as an appreciation for the good work she has been doing in support of UNHCR's goals.
She becomes the first Kenyan to be appointed the Goodwill Ambassador.
UNHCR works tirelessly to help refugees who have fled their countries due to war or other reasons.
Currently, Kenya hosts approximately 480, 000 refugees and other people who flee seeking for asylum in the country.
