A number of schools will have to expand their infrastructure to accommodate the huge number of students being admitted there.
Speaking on Tuesday in Kisumu, Nyabondo Boys High school principal Gabriel Jura said he is tasked to put up a new dormitory that will accommodate at least 300 students, adding that by Friday last week, the school had admitted 241 new students.
“By the end of last week, we had received 241 Form One students and others are still coming. We are expecting at least 270 students this year,” said Jura.
The school is currently putting up a three-storey dormitory which will accommodate 318 students, saying the school has been forced to use dining hall as a dormitory.
“We are building a three floors dormitory which will accommodate 318 students, meanwhile we are using the dining hall as a dormitory,” he added.
He also promised to improve the standard of the school by recording quality results at the end of the year, noting that the admitted form ones performed well and that has boosted the morale of the parents and stakeholders.
Apart from Nyabondo Boys Secondary School in Nyakach Sub-County, a number of secondary schools in Kenya especially the boarding schools will be compelled to increase facilities and even teachers in order to accommodate the large number of Form Ones.
The pressure comes after Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha announced that all the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education students must join Form One
