A meeting set to grill Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua over audit queries has been postponed. The Senate watchdog committee has since ordered for his arrest.
Mutua, also Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement leader was scheduled to appear before the Senate watchdog committee but the county assembly declined to provide its chambers for the sitting.
The Public Accounts and Investment Committee (PAIC) has started its three-tour in Ukambani region as it seeks to find out whether the resources are being utilised fully as per the expectations of the government.
The Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang-led committee out to investigate any possible misuse of resources in the counties following the revelations over the same.
The committee is expected to grill Charity Ngilu (Kitui), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui) over the abuse of office.
The county assembly said that it cannot host the sitting since it has begun its recess. Assembly Clerk Felix Mbiuki said he only received information on the sittings through a phone call, which made it impossible for him to facilitate the same.
“We’re not able to host the Senate as informed and therefore request that you reschedule the same to any date after October 6th,” read the letter part of the letter as quoted by Daily Nation.
Mutua has maintained that he is not corrupt. He has also said that he is ready to appear before the committee to shed more light on the same.
