The leaders are basing their argument on the region's perceived dense population, which they say will make it easy to clinch a win in the much-awaited presidential race in the 2022 polls.

Savula on Thursday claimed that the Western Kenya region stands out as the most populated region, which he says is a green light for it to go for the top seat.

"The recent census revealed that the Luhyas are the majority in the country, there is no reason we should not start a grand march to State House,” he said.

He spoke at the Buchenya Grounds in Butere, Kakamega county, where he added that the person to represent the region in the race will be agreed on in due time.

This is as he lifted the lid on a said planned meeting of area leaders, which will begin with a convention of members of parliament before including senators and governors.

"Whoever stands a better chance of becoming president, will be granted support in seeking ascension to State House,” added the firebrand parliamentarian.

The remarks were echoed by Butere MP Tundi Mwale.

This comes at a time when two leaders from the region; ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) have expressed interest in succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta.
