Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen has yet again thrown a jab at ODM leaders pushing to have Raila Odinga succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, arguing that the Jubilee succession plan was settled several years ago.
At Seme on Friday, National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadi rallied troops to support Raila's bid, arguing that he was best placed to continue with Uhuru's legacy.
“I want you, Mr President, to think about the legacy you wish to leave behind with regard to who takes over as your successor. [You must ensure] he carries on with efforts against corruption instead of reversing them," he said.
"Pray with me so that you do not leave us someone who is a thief," added Mbadi as quoted by the Nation.
Despite the pressure on Uhuru to endorse Raila, both leaders have steered clearly off the succession debate. However, they have met for a number of occasions.
But Kondabilet in Marakwet West on Sunday, Murkomen accused ODM of wedging rivalry within Jubilee, adding that the party laid down succession foundation long ago.
According to him, President Uhuru Kenyatta has never recanted his support for Deputy President William Ruto as his automatic heir at State House, adding that the narrative against Ruto is fronted by ODM to divert attention.
"As far as I understand, President Uhuru Kenyatta has never changed his mind. He endorsed the DP as his successor long time ago. Had he changed that position, we would have known," he said.
Although President Uhuru Kenyatta has in the past announced his intentions to back Ruto, his body language since reconciling with Raila Odinga has significantly changed.
