Uasin Gishu county government has been lauded for practically and carefully utilising development grants.
Consequently, it has been given the approval to receive more funds from the bank.
While leading a multi-sectoral delegation who were on a World Bank project implementation mission at the county headquarters, Abdu Muwonge, the bank's country representative said; “We are here to asses the use and impact of Kenya Devolution Support Program grants and subsequently approve level 2 funding to Uasin Gishu County."
During the meeting, county secretary Edwin Bett noted that Uasin Gishu had made progress in equipping staff with necessary skills in revenue collection and other strategies of managing funds, through capacity building workshops, which have led to the positive accountability outcome.
“Through your support, we have a trained and improved the capacity of our staff resulting in notable improvements. This has had a direct impact in areas like revenue collection which has increased by over 20%, our County Integrated Development Plan and Annual Development Plans are also prepared and presented well making it easy for the administration to access funds from national government and development partners. We have also improved in our report presentation to the office of the Auditor-General and The Controller of Budgets,” said Bett in a post on the county's official Facebook page.
Among the projects assessed and appreciated by World Bank delegation included Non-motorised Transport paths (footpaths) which were funded during the first term of operation of the county government (2013-2017).
