Machakos Woman Representative Joyce Kamene Kasimbi has called on local women and youth groups in the county to be vigilant not to fall prey to cons purporting to assist them.
Speaking in Kangundo sub-county after meeting women groups, Kasimbi said that there is a case in Muthesya, Masinga sub-county where some individuals were going around asking for money from the groups promising to buy them tanks.
"They are using my name to con groups, beware of them and know that my office doesn't deal with individuals but group leaders chosen by the members, "said Kasimbi on Thursday.
"In Muthesya there was an incident where some people were going around asking for money from groups in my name claiming they will bring them water tanks and that's why I want groups to be careful, "she added.
She said that money from the groups will be channelled through mobile banking in a bid to keep cons at bay.
Kasimbi said that due to water problems in many areas in Machakos, she chose the water tanks programme to help solve the problem.
This is because residents will now be able to acquire tanks for harvesting water which they will use for domestic purposes.
