Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi's brother was on Friday stabbed to death during a family gathering, authorities have confirmed.
Joseph Wekesa, is said to have had an argument with one of his nephews before a fight broke out that lasted for several hours.
A furious Wekesa, witnesses told the Standard, attacked his nephew Simiyu Wafula with a machete, leading to an ugly fight between the two.
Wafula is reported to have gone for a kitchen knife which he used to allegedly stab his uncle Wekesa.
“They were preparing for a memorial anniversary for the Austin Wamunyinyi, slated for Tuuti Sub Location when the fight broke out,” said Bungoma South police boss George Odongo.
During the fight, Wekesa reportedly hit his nephew on the head and cut one of his thumb fingers using a machete.
After the attack, Simiyu rushed to his kitchen, picked a knife and stabbed his uncle severally. He died in hospital hours later.
“He rushed to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and followed the deceased to his house, before stabbing him several times,” a witness said.
After attacking the uncle with a knife, Simiyu also killed dogs and smashed windows of the deceased's house.
“He killed two dogs and smashed window panes at the deceased’s house.”
Wamunyinyi is a second term MP who was elected on a Ford Kenya ticket. He is a close ally of Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula.
