Daily Nation on Tuesday apologized to Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja after publishing an article with misleading information.
The local daily took to its official Twitter handle to apologize after the story did not augur well with the senator.
According to the story, the senator expressed his readiness to contest for the Nairobi gubernatorial race if the voters compel him to do so.
The lawmaker, however, came forth and said that those were not his exact words.
“An article published on the Nation website yesterday wrongly stated that Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja had said he would vie for a position “should Nairobi residents force him to.” While the substance of the story is correct, it has since been established that it was not,” Daily Nation said in a statement posted on Twitter.
After the story was aired, Sakaja had said he is disappointed with the media house and noted that he never told a local daily that he was going to contest for the position if the residents force him to do so.
“@dailynation pulled down the tweet where they alleged I said I would vie “if Nairobians force me”. I did not utter such words during my interview on K24. I remain focused on my duties as a Senator. Sensationalism sells; the truth is boring.,” he said in a tweet.
