Activist Boniface Mwangi’s Ukweli Party has fielded a candidate for the Kibra by-election.
In a tweet, Mwangi said that he is backing Editar Ochieng for the seat. He noted that Ochieng has what it takes to ascend to power if he gets the support of the residents. Mwangi said that his candidate has been supporting youths through different programs. He also revealed that she has a mentorship programme which aims at transforming the lives of millions of youth who have lost hope in life. He also said that the by election is a good chance for women to lead after Ken Okoth's death."Proud feminist and activist, Founder of Kibra young women network, In 2018 was nominated as the upcoming human rights defender of the year by @DefendersKE, Editar has mentored and trained more than 1000 young people in Kibera," he tweeted.Mwangi also warned the electorate against electing Jubilee candidate MacDonald Mariga for the seat. He argued that the footballer turned politician destroyed lives of youths by promoting betting in the constituency through Betin.“Kibra people, learn from Starehe and Langata. They decided to elect socialites and they're now suffering. Mariga's contribution to the Kenyan youth was to get them addicted to gambling. He has billboards across Kenya promoting betting. Don't send such a person to parliament. BE wise,” he said.
