Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has said that he agrees with some elements of the Punguza Mizigo Initiative but not all of them.
In an interview on Citizen TV, Ruto said that he doesn’t agree with the elements of the reduction of the seats held by women leaders as well as reduction of the number of constituencies.
He said that Former Presidential candidate Ekuro Aukot has good ideas but he needs to restructure so that they are in line with the needs of the people of Kenya before they are presented for a referendum.
“Punguza Mizigo has a number of issues that I support. However, I do not support the reduction of constituencies and the removal of more women in governance,” he said.
He also said that he is ready to support a referendum that will take care of the interests of the people and not sharing of positions within the government.
He further said that the some leaders want to use referendum to pursue selfish interests.
“We are not aware of any referendum that is in the offing. Certainly, I would support certain constitutional amendments. We made a blunder in bringing in a purely presidential system of gov’t and in removing MPs from cabinet,” he added.
He also divulged that Kenya needs better leadership than what we have at the moment.
