A Former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party nominated councillor was on Monday arraigned in court over charges of acquiring money through false pretence.
George Mwangangi alias Mwongolo was charged with obtaining Sh500,000 through fraudulent ways from one Mr James Masinde Wanyonyi.
The former television comedian appeared before Nairobi Magistrate Martha Mutuku who heard that he acquired the money after lying to the accused that he was in a position to lease him an advertising space for a period of one year.
The prosecution told the court that the crime was done on January 31, 2019, at a time when the accused was working ad an employee of Wakati Limited.
The court heard that the accused defrauded the complainant, reports the Citizen Digital.
He denied the charges, and was released on a Sh300,000 bond, with the court also giving him a alternative of a Sh200,000 cash bail.
The next hearing of the case was set for September 26, this year.
Mwongolo was nominated by the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga-led party in that capacity after the 2007 general elections and served for five years until the 2013 polls.
He then attempted to secure an elective seat by running for the Ziwani ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), a bid that flopped.
