Belgut Member of Parliament Nelson Koech has claimed that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) will most likely realise its intended mission, despite all the opposition.
The initiative which was founded by President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga after their 2018 truce seeks to promote unity and cohesion in the country.
The two leaders also nominated seven members each into the BBI taskforce, who have been crisscrossing the nation in pursuit of possible remedies to the nation's post-poll wrangles.
Speaking on Wednesday, the close ally of Deputy President William Ruto claimed that the initiative has a predetermined result, despite being made to look inclusive and open for discussions.
He claimed that the initiative is being handled by some powerful political forces with a well-set intention, and who have already decided on what they want.
“BBI is being driven by forces with some hidden political agenda. Why would we have our opinion in a process already predetermined,” he said.
While Uhuru has been largely silent on the initiative since its formation, forces close to Raila have repeatedly claimed it will culminate in a referendum to expand the executive.
They have urged Kenyans to resist any other attempt to amend the Constitution and await the BBI taskforce report.
