A fire burnt down property worth millions of shillings on Sunday night at Maathai Supermarket in Murang'a town.
According to the Standard Digital, the fire begun at around 10:30 pm almost 2 hours after the employees had closed business and left for home.
The firefighters in collaboration with the members of the public tried putting out the fire which lasted up to until 4:30 am before it went off. The firefighters had been forced to call for help from Kirinyaga and Kiambu counties.
Murang'a County Police Commander Josphat Kinyua claimed that they were forced to call for help after it appeared that the fire was becoming too overwhelming.
He noted that investigations into the incident had commenced.
"We have begun investigations to establish what led to the inferno," Kinyua said as quoted by Nation.
Kenya Power cut out power supply in some parts of Murang'a town especially those ones near the supermarket so as to prevent the fire from spreading.
Police officers had a hard time dispersing some of the members of the public who were taking advantage of the situation to loot from the supermarkets.
The officers were forced to fire in the air severally to disperse the crowd.
Coincidentally, the incident happened almost three months after the supermarket's Ruiru branch also burnt down.
