2017 Turbo parliamentary seat candidate for Jubilee party Kevin Okwara now says the building bridges Initiative (BBI)report must go through a referendum.
He says this is the only way the 'mwananchi' at the grassroots level will have their say through participating in the democratic process of voting to either endorse or reject the report.
“Without casting aspersions to Members of Parliament, we, however, cannot entrust them with the entire process of constitution-making. Am told some can be bought for as little as 100k,” said the Eldoret businessman come politician.
Okwara who spoke to the press in Eldoret town on Wednesday said politicians have already politicized the document and cannot be trusted to make a document that can fit a common citizen.
“The BBI document must be debated by the common mwananchi at the grass-root. The only way to have Wanjiku participate is through a referendum on the same. Democracy is extremely expensive- we chose that route and we must pay for it,” he added.
The parliamentary hopeful further called on Kenyans to read the BBI report for themselves translate it before making any decision without being coerced or forced by politicians.
Kevin further said that politicians should stop using the document to get political mileage but instead leave it for Kenyans to make their decisions regardless of their political or tribal affiliations.
