Speaking during a wide-ranging panel discussion on Media Max-owned K24 TV, Muthuma contended that it was suspect that the footballer was in possession of an acknowledgement slip yet the IEBC could not locate him in the voters' register.

"On August 26 did Mariga visit that place? And if he did who did he meet, was it an official of the IEBC? IEBC must come very clean on this one otherwise Mariga should now be in jail for possessing a document fraudulently, " Muthuma said in a video shared on YouTube. (11:19-11:36)

The analyst's strong words come in the wake of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) opening investigations into the documents that the footballer intended to use to be cleared by the electoral body.

In a short press conference on Tuesday after he was disqualified, Mariga insisted that he was a registered voter as he expressed sadness at missing his name in the IEBC voters register.

His legal team have escalated the matter to the IEBC tribunal in the hope that he will be cleared to contest in the parliamentary race slated for November this year.
