Blogger Robert Alai has now claimed that there are plans to re-arrest Keroche Breweries director Tabitha Karanja over tax evasion.
In a tweet, Alai said that the tycoon was released but she will be re-arrested moments after her release.
“As Tabitha Karanja is processing bail, there are plans to re-arrest her after posting bail. 10 Flying Squad officers placed strategically around Milimani Court entrance,” he tweeted.
Tabitha and her husband Joseph Karanja were arrested over tax evasion amounting to Sh14 billion.
Through their lawyer James Orengo, Tabitha and Joseph insisted that they are law abiding Kenyans.
They told the court that they never received official communication from The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Nordin Haji.
Orengo said that it is unfair for the court to charge the two separately after the husband was freed over his health.
“The accused persons are one entity. The two (Tabitha Karanja & Joseph Karanja) are charged as directors...the company has only one pass and a common source of revenue We ask you to put that in consideration,” he was quoted by Citizen Digital.
The arrest of the tycoons has elicited mixed reactions from different factions.
Former Senator Boni Khalwale and Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika have faulted the DPP and KRA over the entrepreneurs’ woes.
