Suspected Al-Shabaab gunmen attacked a Chinese construction site in Shimbirey area along the Garissa-Madogashe highway.

Reports suggest the attack happened under the cover of darkness on Sunday.

Witness accounts from locals residing near the construction site say that loud blasts were heard from the site.

The attack comes barely a week after the DusitD2 attack in Nairobi's Westlands area where at least 21 people perished.

Kenya is involved in an ongoing military effort in Somalia aimed at uprooting Al-Shabaab.
