People always associate crime to residents of Kibera and forget that it is the unemployment in the city that results to much breaking of the law.
On Saturday, the situation at Air Gate Mall (Taj Mall) was no different as youths stormed the building that was being demolished as they sought to get valuables before the government bulldozers could flatten the area.
In the process, police arrested scores of the youths and put them behind bars.
Police were nonetheless forced to use teargas to stop more of the youths who could not be deterred by 'mere' arrests.
The law enforcers had been forced to move unto action after masses of the youths began to congregate and storm the venue of demolition is search of valuables.
Those arrested will be arraigned in court on Monday.
The county government has insisted that they will continue with the demolitions on any public land marked as road reserves, riparian land, and any other land earmarked for community projects.
