Controversial singer Esther Akoth, alias Akothee on Wednesday temporarily denied access to Parliament for dressing skimpily.
Akothee’s attempts to access the facility proved futile until she decided to take a leso to cover herself before she was allowed to get into Parliament.
According to Parliamentary rules, both women and men must observe certain dress codes before they can access parliament. In August 2018, Murang’a Woman Rep Sabina Chege caused drama in Parliament when she arrived dressed in a short-sleeved top.
The National Assembly Deputy Speaker, Moses Cheboi was forced to intervene after Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo raised concern over her looks.
Female MPs were not impressed with this move by Maanzo and other male MPs who supported him.
However, in her defence, Chege said she was right to dress that way because it was her birthday.
"I do not know what is wrong with Maanzo. Yes, it is my birthday today. And he wished to wish me a happy birthday. I have got his attention and I think that is what he wanted," she defended herself.
