Reacting on Twitter to calls by former Mukurweini Member of Parliament Kabando was Kabado for the Raila Odinga-led party to issue a statement on the incident, the SG held the view that the matter was a criminal one and should be left to the law enforcement agencies.

"Matters of alleged criminal conduct are beyond the realm of a political party. The law enforcement agencies are in charge. @TheODMparty is subordinate to the law of the land. Our concern at the moment is with the victim of this extremely unfortunate incident," ODM SG tweeted on Friday.

Babu Owino was arrested by sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday morning and is expected to face attempted murder charges.

His lawyer Cliff Ombeta said that the outspoken MP fired the weapon because he was apprehensive about his life.

Law enforcement authorities are piecing together evidence as they mount a criminal case against the legislator who is no stranger with brushes with the law.

The DCI said that it had recovered the weapon that was allegedly used in the shooting.
