Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna has applauded two men who attempted to rescue a man whose car plunged into the Indian Ocean at the Likoni channel on Saturday morning.
Oguna urged Kenyans to step up and volunteer in such moments of crisis to offer help wherever they can.
"But we have been informed that there were people who tried to their level best to rescue the man when the car plunged in the ocean. And to the two Kenyans, we would like to say thank you very much for your efforts. And we would like to call upon Kenyans that when such a crisis occurs, they should volunteer to help.

Efforts by the two Kenyans were, however, unsuccessful as they lacked tools to enable them to break the car's window before it sunk into the ocean.
"What happened is that they did not have a tool to break the window (Kilichofanyika ni kwamba hawakua na kifaa cha kuweza kuvunja dirisha)," he added.
The victim of the Likoni tragedy has been identified as 46-year-old John Mutinda.
