Kandara MP Alice Wahome on Saturday insisted that Mt Kenya voters owe deputy president William Ruto following his decision to support President Uhuru Kenyatta twice.
The region is hugely divided over President Uhuru's succession, with one group popularly known as Kieleweke bashing the DP regularly over his trips to the region.
While the group claims it's not interested with 2022 politics, one of its members Maina Kamanda has often vowed to ensure Dr Ruto loses in 2022.
And Ms Wahome now says Central Kenya owes Ruto, arguing that Uhuru has never renounced his support for the DP William Ruto.
“It is the President who said in public that he would lead the country for 10 years and then let Ruto lead us for other 10 years. We have not heard of him changing from that promise and that is why we still support Ruto,” said Kandara MP Alice Wahome.
The vocal MP said Inua Mama movement will continue campaigning for Dr Ruto, whom she insists that is fit to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“This is a development focused group, which has its candidate for 2022. We will travel all over Kenya to seek support for the party’s presidential candidate,” she said.
Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau defended Inua Mama movement, arguing that it's keen to empower youths and women across the country.
“We are empowering youth and women all over the country and this movement is unstoppable. We want to empower those who are less privileged in society,” she said.
Despite vowing to support Ruto previously, President Uhuru Kenyatta has gone slow, with a number of his close allies openly dismissing the DP.
