An aide to Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga has refuted claims that the veteran opposition leader was hospitalized at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi last week.
Mr Odinga has minimised his activities especially for last week, something rare with his itinerary for decades now. He's often seen attending various functions.
But an aide who spoke in confidence on Sunday, says the ODM leader has been well and has never sought medication from any facility in as many years.
"That's untrue and those peddling lies should stop. He is okay. Just because he hasn't appeared in public doesn't mean he's sick. He even hosted a Nairobi delegation at his Karen home on Saturday," he said.
On his Facebook account on Friday, Dennis Itumbi, who has been lately handling a number of cases linking him to various criminal offenses, claimed that Odinga has had a bad week.
The controversial blogger also claimed that Raila has been treated at the facility and went on to wish him quick recovery.
"This is not a great week for former PM Raila Odinga. I wish him quick recovery. Sickness comes to us all. Aga Khan hospital asante for the treatment. May God relieve him of the pain and heal him too," he said.
When reached for comment, a senior official at Orange House had declined to confirm the information, adding that he wasn't in position to do so since the information emanated from a 'Tanga Tanga adherent'.
"I can't comment with certainity and more so when the info originates from a Tanga Tanga adherent," said the official in confidence.
In 2010, Mr Odinga underwent head surgery at Nairobi Hospital when he was serving as Prime Minister. Several dignitaries visited him at the facility.
At a public lecture in the University of Nairobi, he narrated his experience in the theatre room, and even admitted that he was ready for eventualities.
“Before I was wheeled into theatre, I looked at my wife and told her if this was supposed to be my end, so be it,” Mr Odinga remembers the last words he uttered to his wife Ida before the surgery.
After losing his son Fidel Castro in 2015, Odinga also had his eldest daughter Rosemary Odinga undergoing surgery following brain tumor.
She's recovering. While Mr Odinga does not have any known health problems, he was briefly admitted in 2017 following what doctors referred to as 'fatigue'.
