Kakamega Senator Cleopa Malala has laid bare the ordeal he underwent during his two day detention st the Kisumu Police Station over an alleged involvement in the Matungu Killings.
Speaking on Wednesday, the lawmaker who was nabbed on Friday and released on Sunday narrated passing out for three hours while being held in a stuffy and dark cell room.
He said that he was held in a wet cell along side five other suspects, which immediately led to a deterioration of his health and a collapse in the next few minutes.
He claimed that it took the intervention of his cellmates, who did not recognize him, who banged the cell doors to alert the police, after which his doctor was called in to attend to him.
"Niliwekwa katika seli ndogo karibu na choose ambayo haikuwa na mwangaza wowote wala hewa na nikapoteza fahamu kwa masaa matatu hadi wafungwa wengine wakaanza kupiga kelele eti "huyu jamaa atakufia hapa" (I was locked up in a small smelly cell next to a toilet which did not have any air or light supply. I slipped into unconsciousness for three hours, forcing my cell mates to call out in fear that I was dying)," he said on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha.
Malala said that his doctor who was called in from the Aga Khan Hospital was later whisked away after checking on him, proof that he was not allowed to see anyone, including his lawyer.
He has since vowed to sue Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi for wrongfully detaining him, insisting that he was arrested without any proof being shown to him over the said crime.
