Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has questioned why some university Vice-Chancellors are not held accountable over alleged misuse of public resources.
He asked why no action is taken against them yet they are quick to expel students over various issues in the varsities.
In a tweet on Friday, the vocal legislator stated ''University is a learning institution and not a correctional facility. Vice Chancellors are misappropriating funds from various universities yet not held accountable while a student protests against insecurity, HELB delay, poor management of the university and is suspended/expelled,'' said Babu Owino.
He said the same leniency VCs are treated with should be extended to students who are expelled from the institution without a chance to redeem themselves.
Owino called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to give amnesty to over 10,000 students who have been expelled from various universities across the country saying that the expulsion has killed their families' dreams.
''Let them be given a second chance,'' he appealed.
The MP has been vocal on student welfare since his days as a student leader at the University of Nairobi.
