Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has doubled down on his claim that leaders from the Rift Valley region were never given the opportunity to give their views to the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) committee.

The outspoken legislator made the contention on Tuesday on NTV's AM Live programme.

According to Cheruiyot, the opinion leaders were deliberately left out.

"That is not public participation it is a charade. You can't go to various counties, ignore the leaders, ignore the opinion shapers and then pretend that you are doing a document that is inclusive for Kenyans. We know what is the threshold for public participation," the Kericho senator said.

Cheruiyot's strong words were a repetition of the chorus from a section of Rift Valley leaders who claim that they were never afforded the opportunity to express their views.

He said that based on that alone, he would find it difficult to throw his support behind the BBI that veteran Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has said will go a long way in dealing with the country's perennial issues.

A report on the findings of the BBI committee's public hearings is in the process of being compiled.

Upon the finalisation of compilation, the report will be handed over to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.

A referendum is expected to follow thereafter.
