Narok Senator Olekina Ledama has defended Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) supporters against claims that they vandalised Kibra Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga's campaign vehicles.
In an interview with Citizen TV on Monday, Ledama claimed that Mariga is only using underhand tactics to get the sympathy of some of the voters from the region.
He told Mariga that it could have been better for him to stick to sports and not politics. He also argued that Jubilee has already sensed defeat in the contest and is now diverting attention to hide their panic.
“I do not believe ODM supporters vandalized Jubilee vehicles and billboards for Mariga. Mariga is a sportsman, he is better off staying in sports,” he said.
Thirdway Alliance Secretary-General Fred Okango also condemned the alleged violence in the by-election. He termed the incident as not only retrogressive but also barbaric in nature. He asked leaders to embrace political tolerance in the by-election for the sake of development.
“Politicians must uphold national unity and what politicians are doing in Kibra is against that. It is unfortunate that the Kibra by-election is being used as a litmus test for 2022 elections," he said.
