The two buried the hatchet March 2018, bringing to an end the initial enmity that was being seen between them and their allies and supporters.

Kamanda says that apart from bringing about peace, the handshake has also made it possible for opposition members of parliament to have their say, unlike was the case earlier.

He told the Standard that even opposition lawmakers can now access Cabinet Secretaries, and everybody is happy with the truce except one person, in an indirect shot at Deputy President William Ruto, who has been questioning the truce.

“Even those in Tanga Tanga, at the bottom of their heart know that the handshake has brought peace in the country. Unlike in the past even those in the opposition can access ministers and various government departments. Only one person is fighting the handshake,” he said.

Kamanda is the face of the Kieleweke faction, a group of Mt Kenya Jubilee Party MPs spreading the anti-Ruto campaign in a bid to block him from the presidency in 2022.

This comes as a contradiction to views of fellow Jubilee member and Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, who is of the idea that the handshake has litersly killed watchdog agencies in the Parliament.

He says that it has killed opposition, since boh the Leaders Majority and Minority in the National Assembly are in dalliance with the executive, enabling the executive to have its way always.

"This handshake has reduced the value of Parliament because both the National Assembly Majority Leader and the Minority Leader are now singing the same tune on the floor of the House,” said Barasa, an ally of the DP.
