Kenyan athlete Brigid Kosgei on Sunday broke a 16-year-old women's marathon world record in Chicago.
The 25-year-old athlete finished the marathon in 2 hours 14 minutes and 4 seconds.
According to BBC Sports, Kosgei smashed the record that was previously being held by Britains' Paula Radcliffe for 16 years by 1 minute and 21 seconds.
Radcliffe's record time was 2 hours 15 minutes and 25 seconds.
Ababel Yeshaneh from Ethiopia took the second position finishing 6 minutes and 47 seconds after Kosgei.
Kosgei's immense victory comes only a day after another Kenyan athlete Eliud Kipchoge made history in Vienna, Austria after he became the first man to finish a full marathon in less than 2 hours.
Eliud Kipchoge had taken up the challenge in the marathon which was dubbed INEOS 1:59 Challenge in a bid to prove that no human being is limited.
With the entire world watching, Kipchoge crossed the finishing line after 1 hour, 59 minutes and 40 seconds.
He was praised across the world with top sportsmen and women terming him as a 'legend'.
Kosgei's achievement has brightened Kenya's spotlight proving that indeed it is the home of the finest athletes in the world.
