Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has expressed the need for the office of the Auditor-General to support and strengthen internal audit.

Mandago while hosting the Auditor-General Robert Ouko at his office on Thursday, noted that there are challenges facing the counties which his office can handle by building the capacity of internal auditors.

"Most of the counties have weak internal auditors but with proper training and mentorship from AG's office, systems will improve and avoid the same mistakes all the time," said the Uasin Gishu Governor.

Ouko was in Eldoret town to inspect the construction of Auditor-General's Eldoret offices.

"We are the greatest beneficiary from the establishment of the new office, the new office will create efficiency making service delivery fast and easy," Mandago noted.

On his part, Ouko said that they are working on the reclassification of projects which will help in solving auditing problems in counties.

"We also need to separate IFMIS system for the national Government and devolved unit and have an independent one to avoid audit queries, like finding county budget carrying the national government budget," he noted.

Ouko further disclosed that the audit board will soon meet with the Council of Governors to discuss issues that will enable counties to have a favourable opinion of accounting standards.
