Speaking on Friday to Royal Media Services-owned Citizen Television, the outspoken legislator contended that the one week was enough.

He, however, said that only specific areas with compelling reasons for an extension should be granted the extension.

"Let me say that one week is enough because in the past one day was set aside for the head count. Kenyans have been given one week, I think that is enough (Mimi niseme ya kwamba wiki moja ilikuwa inatosha manake hapo mbeleni tulikuwa tunahesabiwa na siku moja. Kama sasa wakenya wamepatiwa wiki moja naona hiyo imetosha)," the Kieni MP said

There had been calls from certain quarters for the exercise to be extended.

Leading the chorus for an extension was Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala who contended that the one week was not enough.

The decennial exercise kicked off on Saturday last week and is expected to come to a close by the end of today.

Enumerators and security officials were deployed in all the 47 counties with the government through the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government ordering the closure of social joints on the initial two days of the head count.

The government touted the exercise as one of vital importance and called on Kenyans to ensure that they are counted.
