Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura now claims that Deputy President William Ruto is headed for trouble with regards to his 2022 presidential ambitions.
Speaking in an interview with Milele FM's 'Kivumbi' on Monday morning, Mwaura held that President Uhuru Kenyatta might sooner or later dishonor their 2013 pre-election deal.
In the agreement, Uhuru reportedly agreed to back Ruto's bid.
This, he (Mwaura) pegged on the President's growing closeness with opposition leader Raila Odinga, another long-time presidential hopeful whose previous bids have all hit a dead end.
"Ukiona vyaelea vimeundwa na mambo yamebadilika, ukiona hawa viongozi wawili wameshikana wako na mipango yao ya siri ya 2022
(The ground has shifted and the team seems to be having a secret plan for 2022)," he said.
He added that a union of the two against Ruto will automatically deny Ruto the chance to lead the nation, considering that they enjoy the most support in the nation.
This, he added, will render Ruto's efforts and any attempt to ascend to the top seat futile, as he cannot match the power the duo wields and the influence they have in their backyards.
"Kenya imegawanywa baina ya hawa wawili na watakayeamua ndiye atakayekuwa Rais. Hata ikiwa watampigia debe mtu mwingine tofauti basi atashinda.
(Whoever they endorse will be the President. Even if they were to settle on a separate candidate apart from themselves then he will be the winner)," he added.
All the leaders have, however, called for political calm, noting that it is time for development and not politicking as 2022 is still several years away
