The legislators vowed to campaign vigorously for the DP as he did for President Uhuru Kenyatta during 2013 polls and his reelection in 2017.

“We will rally behind the leadership of the Deputy President for presidency in 2022 because he has stood with us and that his development track record is clear,” said Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Maragua MP Mary Waithira who claimed they were being threatened by unnamed people to abandon Ruto, but vowed they will stick with him and ensure he becomes Kenya’s fifth head of state.

“We want to assure Kenyans that no amount of intimidation would deter us from supporting Dr Ruto for the presidency in 2022,” said the legislator popularly known as 'Wa Maua'.

On her part, Naivasha lawmaker Jayne Kihara asked Ruto to prepare to occupy the State House after 2022 polls.

“No one will dissuade us from supporting the Deputy President when President Kenyatta’s term comes to an end,” she said.

The MPs spoke in Mathira Constituency in Nyeri County when area MP Gachagua hosted the DP at his home.
