While Raila is yet to declare his candidature, a number of politicians from Mt Kenya region have been meeting him, signs that he could be on the ballot.

On Wednesday, Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru also revealed that the unsettled region could end up supporting Raila, who she said is passionate about women leadership.

Wambugu, a critic of Deputy President William Ruto, on Friday said President Kenyatta has authority to decide who Central Kenya will back as his successor.

"But of course the only way am going to join Raila Odinga is if Uhuru Kenyatta were to tell me to do so. Till then am #UhuruPekee," he wrote in reference to a local publication.

The first-term MP has been at loggerheads with the DP, accusing him of sabotaging President Uhuru's government through early campaigns.

Early this week, Wambugu hinted that Uhuru would choose Building Bridges Initiative over Dr Ruto when that time comes.

The DP has been in the frontline questioning the BBI team, even though it was given a mandate by Uhuru to collect opinions from Kenyans over constitutional amendments.

“The Jubilee administration will not be distracted from delivering on our manifesto and HE’s Big Four plan by those engaged in the raging debate on Punguza Mizigo, BBI or 2022. They should be objective, truthful, and conduct an honest conversation that is in the best interest of all of us," Ruto had said.
