Speaking in Nandi over the weekend, the senator appeared to threaten Jubilee Party members appearing to be favoring ODM boss Raila Odinga over Deputy President William Ruto.

He warmed that such elements are being listed and will be dealt with at the right time.

"Those people fighting the Deputy President we are profiling you and when the time comes we will deal with you (Wale watu wanaendelea kupiga vita naibu wa rais, we are profiling you, ikifika wakati tutawashughulikia)," he said.

In response on Monday, Etale took the remark as a threat to persons opposed to the DP, predicting that Cherargei and his allies could be planning something bad against such people.

He added that the anti-Ruto brigade is ready for the consequences of not supporting him, reminding the lawmaker that he cannot harm all Kenyans.

"You can't force millions of Kenyans to support whomever you are vouching for. If you are planning to kill please carry on. You won't kill and finish the whole country called Kenya," he wrote on Facebook.

Etale further warned the Senator against making baseless threats, reminding him that Kenya is for all Kenyans and not just a selected group.

Cherargei's remarks came only days after Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru said that she would introduce Raila to the Mt Kenya region.

Other members of the party under the Kieleweke tag have also been shifting towards Raila, a year after he (Raila) reached a truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta, the Jubilee Party boss.
