Salim Aboud Khalid alias Survivor was shot and suffered injuries when he attempted to attack the police.

Mombasa divisional police commander (OCPD) Eliud Monari who confirmed the incident said they raided the suspect’s hiding place at Tudor Mwisho, Mombasa.

Monari said during the operation that was led by Anti-Terrorism Police Unit, they shot the suspect in the arm and leg to immobilize him.

Nation.co.ke reports that the suspect was taken to Coast Provincial General Hospital for treatment.

There were claims that a second suspect managed to escape but Monari dismissed the claims saying that the operation was successful as they were targeting to arrest the suspect and that there was no other suspect.

During the operation, a witness said at least 17 police officers raided the suspect’s hideout and sounds of gunshots were heard for close to 20 minutes.

“They asked several times for the person to surrender before shooting,” said a witness who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The suspect will be arraigned in court as the police launch their investigations.
