Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has hit out at Ruto allies insisting that President Uhuru be part of a meeting to address rifts in the Jubilee Party.

Speaking exclusively to Media Max-owned K24 Television on Monday, the outspoken legislator contended that the head of state does not have to be part of a meeting convened by the party, saying that members of parliament can meet on their own in a parliamentary group meeting called by the secretary general.

"But to those trying to insinuate that either the president or the deputy president must be there in a PG, they are getting it wrong, " Kanini Kega said

His words come amid growing calls for President Uhuru Kenyatta to convene a Jubilee Party meeting to address issues affecting the governing party.

Jubilee faces a bewildering array of challenges including growing factionalism and claims that the party's secretary general is undermining the party.

President Uhuru, who is the Jubilee Party leader, has not publicly addressed the divisions in the party.

Weeks ago at an Akorino conference at Kasasrani, Nairobi County, the president railed against Ruto-backing legislators from the Mount Kenya region engaging in politics instead of working for those who elected them.
