In a tweet on Friday night, Dida painted a grim picture of the scale of joblessness in the country.

He contended that educated Kenyans were languishing in joblessness in spite of having academic credentials.

"The government doesn't seem to understand the problem. Certificate holders are jobless. Diploma holders are jobless. Undergrad degree holders are jobless. Masters holders are jobless. And now professors(Dr and PhD) are driving taxis in town. Wakenya tuache mihadarati, " his tweet read.

The former presidential candidate's tweet came in the wake of major companies laying off part of their staff.

Stanbic Bank and the East African Portland Cement laid off scores of members of their staff, decrying a reduction in their market share and losses.

The census recruitment exercise provided a snapshot of youth unemployment in the country.

Scores of youths demonstrated and vowed to scuttle the enumeration process after they failed to secure themselves the census jobs.

A major plank of the Jubilee manifesto was to deal with with the unemployment problem.

Even though interventions have been undertaken to reduce unemployment especially among the youths, the problem still remains.
